Join astronomers from Go Stargazing for an evening spotting shooting stars from the fabulous location of Hexham Racecourse. This event takes place at the peak of the annual Perseid meteor shower and, with the help of amazing dark skies, between 60 and 100 shooting stars may be seen per hour!
Come along with your family and friends for an evening out under the stars... Bring a picnic, chairs, blankets, thermos and red torches if you have them (these don't affect your night vision). There'll be a couple of large telescopes too for viewing the planets Jupiter, Saturn and Mars!
No prior booking or ticket purchase required simply turn up and pay on the door (£2 adults, £1 children) to help cover the cost of opening the venue.
Note that this event is very much dependent on the weather... We will update the event details on our website on the morning of the event so do check back, if it's looking likely the skies will be clear come along! The event will go on into the night if weather permits as the best time to see meteors is in the early hours...
- This event is weather dependent and will only take place if the skies are clear enough for observing. It is therefore necessary to check the weather forecast and confirm with the event organisers that this event is going ahead.
This event is being organised by Go Stargazing who should be contacted if you have any queries.
No booking is required for this event, simply turn up and pay a small fee on the door to help cover venue costs.
